Merry Christmas!

(So do you watch 30 Rock? Unfortunately I already made and sent out our cards before I saw the last Christmas episode. Jack & Avery sent out cards together and on the outside they said "Happy Holidays..." inside it said..."is what terrorists say, Merry Christmas! Love Jack & Avery" Totally cracked me up...is that so wrong or what?!? ANYWAY! Merry Christmas, I hope you are all having fun and enjoying the spoils that Santa brought you!)

Christmas Breakfast Casserole!

It's Christmas Eve!
We have a busy day of travelling today...with a 3 month old...and the rest of them...heaven help me! :)
I am going to be thinking of home a lot today and wishing I was making this instead of listening to "Are we there yet?" and of course the screaming infant who can't understand the torturous device we call a car seat.

Our family traditional Christmas morning breakfast casserole...
Does anyone else have this tradition?
We have been making this since I was in high school, when I made it the first time my family decided that it must be a tradition from then on.
My mom makes it every year now, and it just feels like Christmas when you smell it coming out of the oven.
Of course it is also tradition that my mom calls me on the day before Christmas Eve and asks me what are the ingredients again?
So for my mom, and for everyone else who wants a yummy Christmas (or any other day) breakfast that can be made the night before and popped in the oven in the morning-here it is!

Ingredients:
  • 1 lb. cooked sausage
  • 8 slices of diced French bread
  • 2 cups of grated cheese (pick your favorite, we have used Colby Jack, Cheddar and Mozzerella-all fantastic)
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 1/4 c. milk
  • 3/4 tsp. mustard
  • 1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • 1/2 c. milk
Directions:
  1. Butter or spray 9x13 pan.
  2. Place diced bread pieces in the bottom
  3. Sprinkle 1/2 the cheese over bread
  4. Layer Sausage, then sprinkle the remainder of the cheese over the casserole
  5. Beat eggs well & add milk & mustard.
  6. Pour over casserole
  7. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate over night.
  8. In the morning...Top with soup that has been combined with 1/2 cup of milk.
  9. Bake at 350 for one hour.
  10. Cut into squares and serve.
  11. Yum!

Merry Christmas-Vintage Paper Doll Free Printable

I know I have been lacking in the post department lately-but I'm sure I'm not alone at this busy time of year!

I am going out of town tomorrow and won't be back until the new year, so that means I will be taking a break from blogging until then-I will still post here and there, but not as often as I usually do. I have a lot of fun projects to share with you next year though! Back to business come January! :)

I have a little freebie to share with you today, I have a set of vintage paper dolls, that I think are just beautiful. I wanted to share "Virginia" with you today.

Print her out on some card stock and either give her to a special little girl today to help make waiting for Christmas just a little bit easier or wrap her up and put her under the tree.

Just a tip-I laminated my daughters with some good contact paper, and gave her some of that sticky tab stuff to keep her clothes in place (it looks like blue silly putty-you can find it by post it notes usually) so that they last longer. Enjoy!

Oil & Vinegar Recipe

I love going to an Italian restaurant and eating my fill of the bread with the oil and vinegar, especially when they are flavored with herbs.

I found this on this blog and had to try it out myself. I have a couple of really great friends who really like to cook and I knew this would be a pretty, not to mention useful, gift to give them.I found the bottles at the dollar store and and then I just filled them up using a funnel.

The oil has minced garlic that I cooked on the stove top until golden brown, and then added a sprig or two of fresh rosemary before adding the oil and capping it.

For the balsamic vinegar, I added some sun dried tomatoes through the funnel (I used a chopstick to get them to go in) and then added some red pepper flakes-this really gives it a kick and makes it oh so yummy. Then I poured in the vinegar and capped it.

I used some foil tape to make it a little more festive and some ribbon just for pretties! I made an extra set for myself and I have to say that I am loving how pretty they are on my counter!

These would make great hostess gifts too-if you have any holiday parties coming up this weekend or for the new year, whip up a gift that they can really put to good use, while prettying up their kitchen in the process!

Making the World Cuter Monday

The holiday hustling and bustling are finally winding down around here, I have a few more little things to work on here, but they aren't too stressful.

I finished up with my classes for the year this weekend, and my kids are all done with their lessons as well.

I am all done with editing pictures, and unless I get a last minute appointment this week, I am done for the year.

So excited for Christmas to finally be here, to see my kids cute excited faces and to be spending time with family we haven't seen in ages-we are going to Utah for a week, and Portland for a weekend. Yay!

Just wanted to share this one from a recent session...can you believe all that hair for a 3 month old little boy? Such a cutie patootie!
What cute stuff have you been up to in these last few moments of holiday craziness fun?

Spread the Cheer....

Friendly Friday-Haybird's Blog

Happy Friday-does this month go by way too fast or is it just me? Just a week left until Christmas Eve! Wowzers!

I have a really fun little tutorial from Haley at Haybird's Blog. She is new to the blogging world, but has a lot of great sewing projects up already, and I'm sure there are many more to come!

This is a great way to use scraps! It is a fast easy craft that can be done with or without a machine!
Materials:
Scraps of contrasting colors
Thread
Small amount of polyfill stuffing
Hair Clip
Ribbon
Glue Gun

Using your favorite font, type your child's initial. Size is up to you. My A is about 3 inches tall. I transferred mine to freezer paper because I don't have one of those fancy fade away ink pens. (Santa? Are you reading this?!) You'll need two. However, on the second one, make sure you trace your letter to the wrong side of the fabric.

Using a machine or by hand, sew the edges of your letter leaving an opening to stuff your stuffing ;).If you don't want the frayed look, there are some great "stop fraying" products. (*HINT* For the A, I tried to cut out the middle hole and sew but I couldn't get my stuffing in! I ended up starting over and not cutting out the middle. I sewed a small X in the middle after I stuffed the letter.)

Now that your letter is sewn shut, you can add some bling if you choose. I sewed a little bow towards the bottom. I used a scrap rectangular piece of black and white damask fabric and ran a long stitch down one of the long sides. I gathered it and shaped it into a flower. I then glued my letter in the middle.

To attach the flower and initial to a clip, I first glued some ribbon to cover the metal of the clip and glued the flower to the top! Kinda like this tutorial at The Green Wife.

Presto! If you try this out, I'd love to see how the other letters turn out!
Be sure to come visit me at Haybird's Blog!

Mario & Luigi Felt Softies

As I know I have mentioned before, my 4 year old is a bit more than obsessed with the famous Nintendo plumber brothers.

We decided to have the kids draw names for who they were making gifts for and since my 2 month old drew my 4 year olds name, mom got to make his present.
These were pretty simple to make, I just looked at some Mario games and cut out pieces of felt to match, and then hot glued them all together.

I sewed all around the edges, and you can tell, especially on Luigi, that I had to wait until the kids were all asleep and I was sleep deprived to work on them.

They started out as hand puppets, but I decided to make them softies after I realized that I couldn't get my hand in Luigi's head anymore! :)

I stuffed them with poly-fill, added some poly-pellets to their bottoms and hand sewed them up with some simple legs.

I know my son will be so excited on Christmas morning to find these little guys under the tree!

Things I love...toys, pics and lit up faces

First of all-how are all of you doing with Christmas shopping? I am DONE!!! I feel SO much better now that it is all out of the way, now I can just enjoy my month with the kids, work on a few handmade items after they go to bed while my hubby and I watch movies and drink hot cocoa and relax.

CSN stores made it super easy for me this year too, I was able to pick up some things that my kids are absolutely going to love, at some pretty great prices too I might add!

My 4 year old has been obsessed over Abraham Lincoln ever since he learned about him in pre-school and thinks that log cabins are the bees knees, (of course he doesn't use that expression...who does anymore? I personally think it should come back, along with 'the cats pajamas', because that is just fun to say).

He will be opening some Lincoln Logs on Christmas morning (he thinks he's getting a drum because of the shape of the present, he must think his mommy is a glutton for punishment).
My 2 year old always plays with my daughters Melissa & Doug magnet dolls, but they are girly and I know he is going to be absolutely thrilled with this Joey dress up doll, (I KNOW he will love them, because he already saw them when he opened all the presents the other day, and was so sad that I wouldn't let him keep this one). CSN stores has great prices on Melissa & Doug products, and they of course are absolutely the best toys out there.

Another Melissa & Doug toy, this one for my 6 year old, but I know the other kids will be playing with it just as much. Is there anything more fun than pretending to make cookies? (well except for maybe actually making and eating them). Have I mentioned the great prices and fast shipping? Just $15 and some change for a high quality wood toy-fantastic! My four year old has also been asking for some 'noculars', so hopefully Santa will slip a pair of these into his stocking. My husband loved that they were camo pattern, good quality and such a good price-Santa might need to pick up a pair for him too!
Thanks CSN stores for helping get such a good chunk of my shopping done!

I have been a busy bee with trying to squeeze everyone in for holiday card pictures. This is one of my absolute favorite families, and I love that they wanted their pictures taken in front of this bright yellow wall-how fun is that?!?
One of my favorite traditions that I've done for the past 4 or 5 years is take a picture of each of my kids with the Christmas lights. They never turn out perfect, but to see their little faces literally light up with excitement for the holiday is one of my most favorite parts of Christmas.

And lastly, I am going to be joining the awesomely talented women over at The DIY Club as a Dare Blogger this next year and they are having a fun party over there now. Share your spray paint projects and get the chance to win 6 new cans of pretty spray paint from Krylon. :)

Pretty in Paint

Hope everyone else is feeling the joy of the month and the season, and getting in a little extra snuggling time with the ones that you love. :)

Return to the Family-Christmas Gift Idea

Have you heard about this???
I love when new ideas are thought up to help bring families closer. I just wanted to let you in on a project my friend and some other amazing bloggers have come up with!
It is a project that they have been working on with renowned Christian artist Liz Lemon Swindle which is entitled Return to the Family.
It is fabulous! It promotes not only having a picture of Christ in every home, but a Return to Family and Family Dinners.
"Return To The Family" 2011 Signed Limited Collector's Edition

The Return to Family project is 12 Limited Collectors Edition Paintings with a custom sayings on each print designed to teach and inspire your family and provide opportunities for you to teach lasting values and principals of integrity. Every Month you will have the opportunity to receive a new matted image that will create new interests, new ideas and fresh conversation around the dinner table. Each painting comes with a brief history behind the artwork along with several topics of discussion that correlate with the print. With the Return to the Family project you get:
.
• 12 Limited Edition SIGNED Paintings (one new image every month)
• One custom frame (you have the option to order a new frame for each print or slip in your new print each month into your existing frame)
• History behind each painting
• "Dinner Table" discussion with hidden symbolism and various values and principals of integrity you can discuss with your family around the dinner table.

.
All that for less then $17 a month! Such a great Christmas present. You can purchase all 12 months up front or they also have the option where you can purchase the pictures monthly.
.
The idea of the Return to the Family project is to simply hang this art work next to your dinner table and then let the conversations begin. When children ASK questions, it means that they are ready to LISTEN to the answers. As parents we have a tendency to lecture our children when we want them to learn a specific lesson, value or principal. Hanging uplifting Art in your home makes it so that the children can study it out in their mind and then ASK making it possible for the spirit to then TEACH. Uplifting Art in your home can teach, testify and change hearts.
.
I love the idea of changing out these pictures every month. I feel like it will not only inspire my children, but me as well. That is what they want to help you do with your family, and the Return to the Family is a start to making that happen.
They have hand selected some of Liz's amazing art for you to receive each month and invite you to join us in the Return to the Family by hanging uplifting Art on the walls of your home.

Eye Spy Bean Bags

One of the presents that I already had wrapped and under the tree before my little man decided to start Christmas a little early were these eye spy beanbags.
I know these are all over the place, in fact my friend helped me put them together-but I still wanted to share them with you...just in case you forgot how cool these things are. My kids are absolutely loving theirs. (Yes, I let them keep them, they were all looking at them anyway).
Just a quick little tutorial and supply list to help you whip up a few of these boredom busters to stuff in socks, give as friend gifts, let the kids play with on long trips to visit family, sibling gifts that are easy to make or whatever...
  1. Fabric-fleece-I used a tiny cheap receiving blanket that Oliver was too big for now and that was never used. I cut each square about 6x6. (I think if I ever make these again, I will use pinking sheers for a cleaner and cuter look).
  2. Clear vinyl-can be bought at the fabric store-super cheap and you hardly need any for this project, just enough for the square you cut out of one of the fleece squares.
  3. Little random objects from around the house-ideas; puzzle pieces, buttons, cupcake pics, shells, change, googly eyes, beads, game pieces, beans, safety pins, paper clips....
  4. Jump ring and ribbon to hold the contents card on
  5. Content Card-I just took a picture of all the little items before I put them in the bag, but if your kids are reading you could also type out a list. I like the photo, that way the kids can see what they are looking for. I took all three photos and then put them on an 8 1/2 x11 document in photoshop-resized them all to fit down the middle and then printed them. I covered them in clear contact paper to protect them and keep them sturdy.
  6. Poly-pellets-found by the poly-fill in your craft or sewing store, I think you could also use rice if you wanted.
To make them it's pretty self explanatory-
  • Cut the squares of fabric and your hole in the middle of the beanbag-you could be more creative than me and make your hole a shape like a heart or a circle, or my husband thought it would be a little more challenging if I put 2 or 3 small holes so that they have to look through smaller windows.
  • Cut your vinyl about 1/4" bigger than your hole and sew it on the backside of the square so that you have a window
  • Take your folded piece of ribbon with your jump ring in between and sew it to one of the insides of the square.
  • Sew the two pieces, insides together all around leaving a small hole to put in your items and filler
  • If you're going to take a picture of your items, do it now before you put them in the beanbag-put them in.
  • Using a funnel add your filler.
  • Sew up the hole and add your contents card.
Voila! Easy Peasy and you can whip up a whole bunch pretty darn quick. :)

Making the World Cuter Monday

How was your weekend? Have I mentioned I love December? If only I didn't have to drive in this wretched snow it would be perfect!

Oh...and if my 2 year old wouldn't have unwrapped all of the presents that were under the tree this morning (Sunday) before I got up, and showed everyone what they were getting...then it would be perfect-Arggghhh!

I could hardly stay mad at him, he smiled so cute when I came in, and said, "It's Christmas Mommy!"

I guess presents stay hidden from here on out...

Don't hide what you've been doing, I want to see! :)

Pass it on....

Lovin' it!

Just a few things I am loving right now...

In school right now I am learning all about content management systems and focusing on Joomla. I am loving all the things I can do with this! Web Design is fun, but all the little coding and adding new content to sites is not my favorite part of the job-but this just makes my life a lot easier. I am almost done with this degree, I will be all done at the first of February, and that is what I am truly LOVING! :)

My camera clicking finger has been super busy this last weekend and shows no sign of slowing!
I had such a fun session with this happy couple and their cute baby bump! She wanted some more 'artsy' pics as well-so that was a fun stretch of my creative muscles!

I got the opportunity to take a family picture for one of my absolute favorite families on Sunday-could you be any more gorgeous? Check out that hot mama, and those kids are so beautiful...and I guess that dad of theirs isn't too bad himself! :)I LOVE when I find out I have inspired someone to do something...
Clarissa at A little stone house made her own version of my burlap stocking advent calendar and I think it turned out SO squeal worthy, those tags are adorable! Check out her post here. What are you loving right now?
